Applications of BBa_M36118

We transfected this gene into HeLa cells with a CMV promoter in front and termination sequence at the end. The cells were lysed with either SDS or Triton-X 100-based buffer and tested for presence of vitamin C using abcam's Ascorbic Acid Assay Kit (Biological Samples) (product # ab65656), but no vitamin C was found. A Western Blot was also performed with Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Inc.'s Gulo (Y-12) Antibody (product #sc-161694), but no protein was found. With this information, transcription of the gene still needs to be checked, but it does not appear that the GULO enzyme is being made.
